Maria’s Coffee & Sandwich Shop, located at 129 Wentloog Rd in Cardiff, is a local gem that has garnered mixed reviews from its visitors. Customer experiences range widely, with some praising the warm atmosphere and friendly service, while others have expressed dissatisfaction with certain menu items.
One highlight is the welcoming environment created by the owner, Mikey, and his wife, Maria, who go above and beyond to make guests feel at home. Patricia Lawrence noted how Mikey personally addressed dietary needs, especially for those requiring gluten-free options. Reviews comment on the fresh, wholesome food, such as Andrew John Davey’s appreciation for the cheese and salad baguette, which stood out for its quality.
However, not all feedback has been positive. Customer Zebedee had concerns over the breakfast's preparation, mentioning issues with the bacon and sausage. In contrast, DEAN KONDERLA emphasizes the shop's reliable service and consistent quality, giving it a perfect score.
With its charming ambiance, commitment to customer care, and a menu that, while inconsistent, has potential, Maria’s Coffee & Sandwich Shop remains a staple for those seeking a comforting café experience.

Based on 101 reviewsMaria’s Coffee & Sandwich Shop in Rumney, Cardiff is generally praised for its warm, friendly service and welcoming atmosphere, with staff often noted for their politeness and attentiveness. The cafe offers fresh and varied food options, including accommodating gluten-free dietary needs, which customers appreciate. Despite occasional feedback about certain menu items, the shop remains valued as a local spot offering good value and a comfortable place to enjoy simple, satisfying meals.
Decent place after waiting on mot. Nice breakfast, but the beans were scalding. Update. Bacon is so thin that it is transparent! Sausages were either half frozen or cooked and reheated, and one side was rock hard chewy. I won't be visiting again
Lovely people go most mornings break time food always good very polite and helpful staff10/10
Beautiful fresh food, I chose a cheese and salad baguette which was very nice
Whilst out walking today we paid a visit. Having read the reviews we weren't disappointed. On arrival Mikey the owner came over, introduced himself & made us feel most welcome. His lovely wife popped her head out of the kitchen & said hello. As a customer who needs a gluten free diet he made me feel at ease, assuring me the kitchen are diligent whilst preparing & serving such dietary requirements. My food arrived, hot & delicious as was my husbands. Colin the cockatial was most amusing too. Facilities were clean & easily accessible for disabled. Thank you Mikey & Maria for making us feel so welcome.
Great local coffee shop with good food choices and decent prices, even if it looks exquisite. The staff is friendly but no pushy. PS I loved the toast
Gorgeous boxed afternoon tea. Highest compliments of the recipient. Best they've had apparently. Thanks. X
The best paninis and peach ice tea! I order pretty much every day and to have been sent a little sweet treat out of the blue just for being a regular customer is so lovely and such a rarity in this world. Always reliable and the best customer service, thank you Maria
This is a gem of a place. Just opposite the Old Rompney Castle in Wentloog Road. The ladies serve a wide range of quality food, from breakfast and hot and cold sandwiches and light brunch such as salads and jacet potatoes. There is a wide variety of hot and cold beverages including iced latte and teas and a good choice of cakes to tempt you. Really relaxed atmosphere and spotlessly clean, you really can't find places like this anymore as the prices are extremely affordable and you can ring in ahead and collect.
